Young musician 2010

As in previous years the Camberley Theatre will host the Surrey Heath Young Musician of 2010 competition in October and November. Schools in the Borough are invited to support this initiative by asking music departments to inform pupils about the events and to encourage them to enter.

The competition which was first held in 2008 has offered opportunities to young musicians in the Borough to demonstrate their musical talents in public. The 2010 competition has been opened up to all levels of musical achievement not just to holders of Grade certificates.

The competition has three sections: Ungraded, Grades 1 to 4 and Grade 5 and above and covers wind, strings, keyboard, percussion and brass.

Young musicians aged 12 to 18 years who live or learn within the Borough are eligible to enter. Instrumentalists who play trumpet, trombone, piano, flute, oboe, saxophone, guitar, violin, viola, drums or another instrument are invited and encouraged to enter this year’s competition.

Heats will be held at The Camberley Theatre on Sunday 10th October and in local schools on 16th and 17th October. Entrants who win through to the finals will be take part in a public performance at The Camberley Theatre on Saturday 13th November. Each of the three section winners will be awarded a prize of £100. One of the section winners will be named as The Surrey Heath Young Musician of 2010 and will be awarded an additional £150 giving him or her a total prize of £250. Trophies will also be awarded.

Adjudicators will include three local music teachers and each competitor will be given an adjudication at both the Heats and Finals.

The entry fee is £5. We know there are many talented young musicians out there and we want to encourage them to show us what they can do and to enjoy themselves in doing so.
