Terms and conditions
- This competition is open to any classical musician who has attained Grade six or above and is aged up to and including 18 years on the date of the Finals (18th October 2009).
- There are five instrumental categories:
- Keyboard (piano or digital keyboard), Percussion, Woodwind, Brass, String.
- Each contestant must reside in or attend a school in the Borough of Surrey Heath, or be taught by a private tutor in the Borough. Proof will be required.
- The name of your tutor must be provided and a copy of your current Grade certificate must be supplied.
- The competition is in two sections - Heats and Finals. The Finals will be for the top 10 competitors from participants in the competition.
- Heats will take place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September 2009.
- Finals will be held on Sunday 18th October 2009.
- Both events will be held at The Camberley Theatre at times to be announced.
- The maximum total length of each competitor’s performance is 10 minutes and may comprise up to 2 pieces. Competitors who win through to the finals may, if they wish, change the piece/s they perform.
- A professional adjudicator will judge Heats and Finals. The adjudicator will give a brief public adjudication for each competitor.
- All competitors apart from pianists must supply their own instruments. An upright or grand piano will be provided for pianists.
- Competitors must provide their own accompanist (if required).
- Competitors must supply a copy of their music a week before the Heats and Finals.
- It is the Entrant’s responsibility to ensure that music used for performance conforms strictly to copyright law.
- For the Finals a rehearsal will be held on the afternoon of the event. Each competitor will be allocated approximate time slots for their rehearsal and performance.
- Competitors must present themselves in a smart professional manner at the Heats and Finals.
- Entrants may enter more than one instrumental category.
- An entry fee of £10 per competitor, per instrumental category entered, must accompany the entry form and should be made payable to “Surrey Heath Arts Council”.
- Each Finalist will be awarded a prize of £50. The overall winner of the Final will be awarded a prize of £250 in addition to their prize as a Finalist. The adjudicator may award additional prizes at her discretion.
- In the event that a nominated Finalist is unable to perform at the Final the organisers reserve the right to nominate an alternative entrant.
- Decisions of the Organisers and Adjudicator are final and binding.
