Young musician 2008

Surrey Heath Arts Council is pleased to announce the inaugural Young Musician competition.

This competition is open to any classical musician who has attained Grade six or above and is aged 12 to 18 years on the date of the Finals (19th October 2008).

There are five instrumental categories:

• Keyboard (piano or digital keyboard)
• Percussion
• Woodwind
• Brass
• String

Each contestant must reside in the Borough of Surrey Heath. A postal address and telephone number will be required.
The name of your tutor must be provided and a copy of your current Grade certificate must be supplied.
The competition is in two sections - Heats and Finals. The Finals will be for the top two competitors from each instrumental category.
Heats will take place on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th September 2008.
Finals will be held on Sunday 19th October 2008.
Both events will be at The Camberley Theatre at times to be announced.
The maximum length of each competitor’s performance is 10 minutes. Competitors who win through to the finals may, if they wish, change their programme to be performed.
A professional adjudicator will judge Heats and Finals. The adjudicator will give a brief public adjudication for each competitor.
All competitors apart from pianists must supply their own instruments. An upright or grand piano will be provided for pianists.
Competitors must provide their own accompanist (if required).
Competitors must supply a copy of their music a week before the Heats and Finals.
It is the Entrant’s responsibility to ensure that music used for performance conforms strictly with copyright law.
For the Finals a rehearsal will be held on the afternoon of the event. Each competitor will be allocated an approximate time for their performance. Competitors must present themselves in a smart professional manner at both events.
Decisions of the Organisers and Adjudicator are final and binding.
An entry fee of £10 per competitor, per category entered, must accompany the entry form and should be made payable to “Surrey Heath Arts Council”.
Category winners and runners up will be awarded a prize of £100 and £50 respectively.

A prize of £500 will be awarded to the overall winner of the Final.
