Case study

I must thank you very much for the bursary;

 I attended a Flutewise course at Abbotsholme School in Staffordshire. Flutewise is a charity to help the development of young flute players using a variety of means including residential courses, day events and the publication of a quarterly magazine, promoting fun and friendship through education and motivation.

I have been involved with this organisation for several years but had the opportunity to further my professional development, on the August Residential course, working with David Nicholson (formerly of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Scottish Chamber Orchestra) in Master classes and personal tuition sessions.

With students he covered many aspects of flute playing including posture, vibrato and breathing as well as performance tips. Also on the course, each of the teachers tutored an ensemble group of students over several sessions, then each group performed to the other course participants.

I am hoping to continue to have further tuition from David Nicholson prior to taking a DipABRSM exam later in the year.
